Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment & Palliative Care

A cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, and it’s completely natural to experience worry or sadness. At Virtue Vets, you’re not facing this alone. Our team is here to guide and support you at every stage, with a focus on your pet’s comfort, happiness and quality of life.

Every pet’s journey is unique. When a cure is possible, we work toward it. When it isn’t, our goal is to extend your pet’s life while protecting the things that matter most — comfort, joy and dignity.

Diagnosis & Treatment

We begin with gentle, thorough diagnostics to understand exactly what your pet needs. Our clinics use advanced, non-invasive HT Vista digital screening, which allows us to scan new lumps and bumps under the skin. A simple 40-second scan can often confirm whether a lump is cancer-free, giving you quick clarity and peace of mind.

If further investigation is needed, we may recommend a combination of blood tests, tissue sampling (fine-needle aspirates or biopsies) and high-quality imaging such as X-rays, ultrasound or endoscopy. These tools help us build a complete picture, so we can plan the safest and most effective next steps. We reassess regularly to adapt your pet’s care as their needs change.

Your pet’s treatment plan may include:

  • Pain management to maintain comfort throughout the day

  • Soft tissue surgery to remove accessible tumours

  • Chemotherapy protocols, used thoughtfully and only when appropriate

Our approach is always personalised, compassionate and evidence-based.

Palliative Support & End-of-Life Guidance

Many families come to us for advice on palliative and end-of-life care. These are tender conversations, and we handle them with sensitivity, honesty and kindness. We help you understand what signs to look for and how to recognise when saying goodbye may be the gentlest and most loving choice. Through every step, our purpose remains the same: to help your pet live comfortably, joyfully and with dignity — and to support you as the person who loves them most.
