What is a Cruciate Ligament Tear in Dogs?
A cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear is a common cause of hindlimb lameness. It weakens the knee joint, causing:
Pain and discomfort
Instability
Limping or difficulty walking
Without treatment, joint damage can worsen over time, leading to pain and earlier-onset arthritis.

At Virtue Vets, we’re offering TPLO at a fixed price. This includes your specialist consultation, TPLO surgery, X-rays on the day of surgery, anaesthesia, fluids, post-operative medications, up to 3 days of hospitalisation if required, two post-operative check-ups, and referral to our in-house physiotherapist.
Please note: the fixed price does not include your initial consultation, emergency fees, complications, specialist re-examinations beyond the two included check-ups, or follow-up X-rays.
How TPLO Surgery Works
TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) stabilises the knee by levelling the joint surface. The procedure involves:
A curved cut at the top of the tibia (shin bone)
Rotation of the bone to flatten the joint surface
Fixing it in place with a plate and screws
This prevents abnormal movement, reduces pain, and restores stability.
Recovery & Hydrotherapy
Post-surgery rehabilitation is vital for the best outcome:
6–8 weeks of rest
Physiotherapy & hydrotherapy to rebuild strength and confidence
Laser therapy for anti-inflammatory, pain relief and wound-healing effects. (soon to be available for home rental!)
